- The original title of “Smile” was “Dumb Angel”
- Lead singer Brian Wilson had a sandbox built around his piano while recording “Smile” to get the true beach feel beneath his feet while he composed
- The Beach Boys first royalty check was $1000 for the song “Surfin”
- Wilson sang back-up vocals on Linda Carlisle’s “California” single
