One of the biggest challenges for people when they go on vacation is staying with a fitness routine. It's difficult because most people go on vacation to take a break from their responsibilities, especially their jobs. However, that doesn't mean all of your responsibilities go away, including your fitness priorities. Whether you're paying attention to your fitness because your health is a high priority for you, or simply because you're a weekend warrior maintaining a competitive edge, you don't have to give it up just because you're on vacation. You may, however, have to make some minor adjustments. For example, if your routine involves going to the same fitness center and working through the same circuit of workout stations several times a week, you'll have to try to replicate that on the road. But don't despair… it's a lot easier than it sounds. And it's important because stopping your routine and then trying to pick it up again when you get home doesn't always work. At Exploria Resorts, most locations offer the use of a private fitness center that is restricted to guests staying at the resort. Each has a variety of fitness machines and workout stations, which means you can get a complete workout any day you like. And at all of our fitness centers, we have installed dividers between the exercise stations and have plenty of sanitizer available, as well as performing frequent deep cleaning to protect our guests. Working out at your 'Home Away From Home' If your normal exercise routine takes place in your home – such as following along with an aerobics video, using resistance bands, or live streaming yoga videos – that's a fairly easy routine to take on the road with you. At Exploria Resorts, your “home away from home” has plenty of space to lay an exercise mat down on the floor, as well as having high-speed Wi-Fi to live stream videos. So, all you need to do is pack your equipment before you travel, along with workout clothes and athletic shoes. Also, there are plenty of things to do at or near all of our resorts that are physically active and a great way to have fun while staying in shape. Orlando You have a lot of options for getting exercise when you visit Summer Bay Orlando by Exploria Resorts, many of which you can enjoy without having to leave the resort. Guests can enjoy the large private fitness center recently remodeled for social distancing, outdoor amenities that include fitness trails, tennis court, a basketball court, shuffleboard courts, and watersports activities, as well as multiple heated swimming pools where you can get in a few laps, play, or just relax after a day of walking in the parks. Outside the resort, you'll find plenty of options. For example, there are dozens of golf courses within a half-hour drive from the resort, including some of the most highly rated courses in the Orlando area. There are also several hiking trails just a short drive away, including the trails at Lake Louisa State Park, which is about a 20-minute drive from the resort. Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach Like the Orlando area, there are plenty of golf courses close to Grand Seas By Exploria Resorts in Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Waves By Exploria Resorts in New Smyrna Beach. In Daytona Beach, there are six courses within a short drive, as well as the LPGA Golf Club, which is only a half-hour away. In New Smyrna Beach, there are eight courses within a half hour's drive. For many people who take their jogging seriously, though, these resorts offer an opportunity to go for their daily run on the beach. Both resorts are right on stretches of beach that are mostly hard-packed sand, which makes them ideal for jogging, especially if you're a morning runner and want to enjoy the sunrise and the sound of crashing waves while you run. A word of caution, though… running barefoot is not recommended if you aren't accustomed to it because the surface is almost as hard as pavement. Gatlinburg and The Poconos Both Gatlinburg Town Square By Exploria Resorts and Pocono Mountain Villas By Exploria Resorts offer a landscape of rolling mountain ranges, with the Smoky Mountains near Gatlinburg having more steep inclines and higher elevations. In either case, hiking in these areas is great exercise. Because of the terrain, it's a little more strenuous because you have to hike up and down hills, even along the established trails. And in the winter, when there's enough snow on the ground, both areas are home to several ski resorts. At over 6,000 feet, the tallest peak in the Smoky Mountains is three times the elevation of the tallest peak in the Poconos, so the skiing may be a bit more challenging near Gatlinburg. However, both destinations are a skier's paradise due to the scenic views and exciting ski runs. Sometimes, it's easy to forget that emotional balance is part of your overall wellness, so it's a good idea to include some relaxation techniques to balance all that physical activity. For example, each of the resorts mentioned in this blog is fairly close to a health spa where you can enjoy a massage, along with other spa treatments like facials, manicures, pedicures, and more. Some spas may also offer yoga or meditation classes to help you improve the emotional balance in your life. At Exploria Resorts, we offer luxurious suites at a wide range of desirable vacation destinations, where you can have fun and create memories without giving up your fitness routine.
